Gearing up for an EPIC weekend

It’s Fridayyy!
Today I’m traveling (YAY!)  eight hours south to visit my parents and run the Little Rock Marathon this Sunday, as if I haven’t shut up about it lately 😉
Here’s the really *epic* banner that’s sure to be plastered everywhere:

2014LittleRockMarathonHeaderIII1I think it looks pretty awesome myself!

Back to left justified to be easier on the eyes! I have been looking forward to this weekend since mid October (when I signed up) and will be running as the Flash! I think it’ll give me extra speedy vibes! Since I gave you guys the low down on the weekend yesterday I figured today could be short and sweet. Thanks for reading and being awesome – keep it up!

The rest of the week:

  • Girls Gone Sporty is offering $5 off any Pretty Muddy race (Dallas, Sacramento, Chicago or Richmond) with GIRLSGONESPORTY
  • Saturday I’m going to be meeting Bart Yasso at the Little Rock, I have no idea what that’s going to entail but yeah, I’m excited about it! PS Bart Yasso is Runner’s World Chief Running Officer and he goes around
  • If you’re vegan (even if you’re not) you should check out everything Vegan Cuts has to offer. 100% of the site is vegan-friendly, giving voice to beauty, bath, snack, and a pleathra of other products a voice!

That’s all folks! What do you have planned this weekend?

Facing a Possible DNS…Again

You’re welcome for an extra post this week 😉

DNS: Do/Did not start.

It’s 9:30 and I’m sitting down to write this as I decide whether to leave to go to my race this weekend or not. Quite frankly it sucks. The imminent threat of a DNS for a second time this winter is taking a toll on me. Sure, both are out of my control but it’s getting to my head. My first DNS back in December was when I flew out to California to be with my family as we mourned the loss of my grandfather and in all honesty I would not trade that for a shiny piece of bling or anything else for that matter. TITAN is now icing and snowing it’s way across the Midwest and seems determined to beat me out of running. I, however, would like to shove snow right up…never mind me, I would like to run. More than anything I would like to get down there, run the 13.1 from start to finish Sunday and drive a little too fast (just kidding Mom) to get back in time for school on Monday.

Honestly this is the perfect time for a time machine. Really guys, I have the best readers so if you could whip up a quick little time machine I’d be real cool with that, especially if it had funky monkey wallpaper in it! That’d be great!

Let this be a lie. Please?

PS Did I mention that this storm is called Titan?! TITAN?! Whattt?! If I were a storm (let’s just be hypothetical here) I’d want my name to be Titan, just saying.

Cold air in the South? Hm. Must mean it’s going to be the Polapocalypse.

I know, I’ve gotten a little gloomy on the blog lately – let’s blame the weather but I really love running and training and being more active than ever. I love love love it. With my first half marathon pending this weekend, my first marathon in about a month, my second 50k this September, and my first Ironman in the plans I could not be more excited. Too top all that I will be learning how to ride a bike (yes, you read that right) and taking you along for the ride – it’s sure to be interesting or at least entertaining!!

I’ll make a (hopefully sane) judgement call tomorrow morning after I get out of class about 11, with any luck I’ll be on the road. I’m packing tonight and have prepped all week like I’m going. I have also been running/biking/swimming this week since it’s not technically not taper week I’m “running through the taper” but still have taper jitters.

Eek! Dealing with said jitters have been an extremely delicate matter. I’ve been eating everything in sight, have spent several classes actually standing and very fidgety, even when I went into the Foundation (where I spent my volunteer hours) I could hardly sit still. Alas I made it through the day and am looking forward to the weekend, whatever it may hold!

Can it hold this?

…or 80% of this?!

Ha, yeah. I’m a huge Big Bang fan
and let’s be real, Ryan Gosling can make anyone run faster!

What’s the plan?

  • Get to Arkansas Friday night,
  • Meet Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea (authors of Run Like A Mother), Andrew Starykowicz (pro triathlete), and Bart Yasso (CRO of Runner’s World). Yeah, the Little Rock Marathon has a great lineup and I’m pumped to be in the same room as each!
  • Run (fast) Sunday,
  • Get back in time for class Monday morning.

Yeah, so that’s it! I’m going to pray about it, hope I don’t get stuck in north Arkansas/southern Missouri, and pack for an awesome race this weekend!

Thanks for hearing me out and I hope you guys will share your thoughts! Have you ever faces a DNS? In a race or in life?! How’d you make the decision?

Marathon Monday: I’m afraid

We can get to workouts in a second, my biggest concern (besides of a DNF) is not packing enough XYZ. What if I forget my super fast lucky undies? Surely I’m not the only who is extra speedy in a specific uh hms? TMI? Sorry (#notsorry). Either way I’ll start packing when I get home today and my checklist is a mile long…or 13.1 miles. My race this weekend is 8 hours away so I’ll be far away from the hubby who can bring whatever I forgot! What do you have to pack for a race weekend?

Tuesday: Outdoor Fartleks; 1 hour.

Wednesday: Swim; 1 hr, 15 mins. No surprise, my favorite!!

Thursday: Bike easy; 45 mins.

Friday: Yoga/Stretching; 1 hr. I can’t lie, if I were to even try to stretch for an hour I would probably pass out from boredom. Just saying. Let me know if you have tricks for that!

Saturday: Tempo run; 1 hr.

Sunday: Rest

Monday: Swim; 1 hr 10mins.

That’s all folks! Do you have a favorite workout? A least favorite maybe? What is it?

Friday Five!

Ok, so this list may be a little random and if you follow me on social media you’ve probably seen at least three of these things in the last few weeks if not the last week! Check it:

eggless cookie dough

5. Vegan cookie dough…to eat. There’s nothing I looked forward to more most nights. Yeah, it was a rough week. This recipe is already safe to eat as you won’t be consuming raw eggs. If you’re a vegan it’s easier to convert: 1/4 cup of vegan butter (I use Earth Balance), 1/4 cup of your favorite milk substitute (I use 8th Continent) and use 60-100% chocolate.
The chocolate gets tricky because it’s typically not specifically labelled ‘vegan’, just check the ingredient list and if you see casein, whey, milk solids, milk powder, or a derivative of any you can be pretty sure it’s not vegan. A way to solve that is to head into the baking aisle and grab baker’s chocolate at 100%, that’s what we do and cutting it up is a little more work but totally worth it!!

4. Skinny Pop. Uhm so the low down on my new favorite snack is as follows: non-GMO certified, certified gluten-free, kosher, vegan, “no artificial anything,” delicious, addicting, only 100 calories per bag (as if you could stop at just one bag!).

3. Junk Food-Burpee equivalencies. What what?! Spartan got together with a doc and put it all together. You will never look at your favorite treat the same way. Get ready to do some remorse burpees!!
PS it tells you how to calculate your burpee calories and convert junk food calories into burpees – awesome!

2. How my mom sends me encouragement and tells me she’s proud. I got a Facebook message earlier linking to this slideshow it’s a great slideshow to remind people (me, ’cause I’m a people) to back to the basics. Not just for the fun-loving twenty-something in you! She also

1. Canva. I’ve played on it for the past few weeks now and it’s awesome for creating marketing materials for posters to blog and social media images. It makes life as a blogger and as a student easier. Total recommendation here! It can be a little finicky though so just know that!

P.S. Per usual the companies are unaware they’ve made it onto this (extremely exclusive 😉 ) list and no, I have not been compensated in any way. Well, Mother Nature is helping me get to a rocking race but anyone can be compensated by her!!

What was your favorite thing this week? Maybe it was an awesome workout or a new found love of something – let me know!!

Marathon Monday: Running Behind

Yikes guys, I didn’t realize I forgot to log some of training – here’s to back publishing! School’s been crazy busy and I’ve been spending upwards of 12 hours a day on campus (PS I don’t live on campus!) so i’ve been getting my workouts in late at night or two at a time. It’s been…interesting to say the least!

Tuesday: Short, fast tempo run; 30 minutes

Wednesday: Swim; 1:05; I am loving the pool, really, unless my lane buddy bumps into me (or I her/him) I can zone out and not worry about a thing. Well, I can focus more on not drowning!!

Thursday: Bike; 50 mins, mostly at Ironman pace. Seeing as biking is my weakest spot and I have never cycled that far I’m not 100% sure what that pace is but I ride at a pace that feels good and is sustainable.

Friday (Valentine’s Day): Lower body weights; 30 mins.

Saturday: Outdoor run at a local park; 40 mins, with the hills. The hills have eyes, just saying.

Sunday: Rest; all day.

Monday: Core Circuit; 30 mins.

It was a great week, very cold but what’s new? Extra layers of throw aways never hurt anyone!

Liebster: Whatever that means!!

Thank you Bree behind Running Breezy for nominating this fellow blogger! Now to the low down!

What is it?

Well first and foremost I’m a closet nerd and have to find the definition of the words I don’t know, in this case liebster was THAT WORD and since it’s clearly not English I bypassed my handy dandy dictionary (surely I’m not the only one who still carries one?) and Google Oogled away. Long winded enough?

Liebster = beloved. Perfect for Valentine’s Day!

“The Liebster Award is for any up and coming blogs you enjoy reading and a great way to promote them!

1. This award is given to new or up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers.

2. The award is then passed along to other bloggers in the same category to help spread the word and support one another.

3. Each blogger should post 11 random facts about themselves.

4. Answer the questions the tagger has set for you.

5. Choose 11 new bloggers (with less than 200 followers) to pass the award to and link them in your post.”

Questions AKA the fun part!

1. Have you always loved to workout, or did you find yourself surprised when you really started to get into it?

I have gone through times of inactivity but I feel like I’ve always loved it, whether it was because I was working to a goal with a team or just trying to get fit! I love it now more than ever and I see now it’s an addiction that feeds itself!!

2. What’s your favorite dessert food?

Oooh, chocolate covered strawberries for sure! The hubby thinks I’m obsessed – I have not clue how he would think that 😉 !

3. Do you tend to indulge in foods you like or do you have to pull yourself back a lot?

Thankfully I like fruits and veggies above all else so I “tend to indulge” but it can’t be that bad, right?!

4. Target or Wal-Mart?

Target! Especially since moving north (Saint Louis) we’ve found Target to be so much cleaner and just an overall more pleasant trip.

5. What’s your favorite running shoe brand?

Brooks, is there any other?! But really #runhappy!

6. What’s your favorite holiday and why?

I love Thanksgiving, the family is always together and our blessings are abundant every year.

7. If you could travel to one country, where would it be?

South Africa, really anywhere in Africa but I figure if I start in South Africa I can sweep up the continent!

8. What book are you reading right now? Or which one do you want to read?

It’s Spring semester for this chicken so I’ve been submersed in my text books! I am in the middle of Born to Run, need to and want to finish it!

9. What’s your favorite Olympic event?

I have actually not gotten to watch even a glimpse of the Olympics this winter so…yeah. Summer Olympics make me a sucker for Track! That counts…right?

10. What’s your current favorite TV show?

Haha TWD aka The Walking Dead! Soo good, every episode leaves me on the edge of my seat…eeeek! Walkers!! Anyway, yeah, The Walking Dead for sure. It has an amazing sociological component that I just love!

I’m skipping the “pick a billion bloggers” and passing the torch to you – pick a question and answer in the comments or make fun of any of my answers but stick that…in the comments too. Thought I was going to say stick it somewhere else? Bless your heart 😉
